Divers For Climate
Divers for Climate is a community-led initiative made for divers by divers that aims to motivate collective climate action across the dive community and beyond. Divers for Climate knows how passionate divers are about the ocean, and that if given the right tools and support, the dive community could channel this passion into the climate movement and play a key role in advocating for stronger climate policies around the world.
Divers for Climate's strategy is poised to significantly impact climate policy and protect vulnerable marine ecosystems by uniting the voices of the global dive community and industry.
Through targeted workshops, events, media campaigns, and engagement with political representatives, Divers for Climate aims to create a unified voice for the protection of our oceans. This cohesive front will wield substantial lobbying power, influencing policy changes crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees. This collective effort not only safeguards marine ecosystems but also highlights the dive community and industry's role in shaping policies for a sustainable and resilient future.
Divers for climate’s MissioN
Divers for Climate's goal is to amplify the voices of divers in the climate movement, ensuring they resonate in every politician's office, reverberate through every media outlet, and echo on every stage. To achieve this, we're currently working on two key activities:
Climate Crew Workshops and Training:
Through intensive workshops and training sessions, we are equipping divers with the skills and support needed to emerge as climate leaders and spokespeople. These sessions will empower participants to navigate and embrace difficult conversations surrounding climate change, preparing them to effectively advocate for policy change and improve public support.
With over 6 million divers worldwide and thousands of daily surface break conversations, our focus is on making each interaction count towards a shared mission for a climate-changed ocean.
Surface Break Events:
Surface Break Events serve as a platform for divers to come together, share experiences, and collectively strengthen our call for stronger climate action. These events are not only opportunities for networking but also forums for fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. By uniting divers at these events, such as trivia nights, panel events, and film screenings, we can create safe spaces to amplify our message for an end to fossil fuels and robust protection of our seas.

Their Inspiration
Divers for Climate was founded by Yolanda after working in the dive tourism industry in parts of Australia, Indonesia, and Spain, and noticing that while divers were passionate about the ocean, there was a missing conversation around climate action and the link between ocean health and the burning of fossil fuels.
Truly believing in the power of the dive community to enact deep and lasting change, she has since been on a mission to understand why the climate conversation was largely silent and how we can turn it around.

To reframe the climate narrative so that individuals feel empowered to take collective action - it's about individuals AND it's about the system.
