Founder Zakia is an award-winning design and marketing professional; a passionate conservationist, an advocate of Blue Health, a certified PADI Dive Master, a lover of sharks, and a mother of two boys.
Having dedicated 25 years in her professional career building and managing global brands across multiple communication channels, Zakia decided to embark on building a new brand – a purpose-driven brand with a mission to protect the underwater world and, in doing so, secure a sustainable and functional surface; MotherOceanBlue was created.
Mother Ocean Blue’s Mission
Connect, educate, inform, and inspire our global youth to affect positive solutions for the planet and people.
Bring cultural and social change to protect the world’s biggest environment.
Leave no one behind.
Mother Ocean Blue’s Inspiration
The lack of climate information given to my sons at the GCSE level was shocking. Investigation revealed a gap in the education system. It raised serious questions for me - how can we expect our youth to take on board the mammoth task of countering climate issues if they don't know how the planet works/functions as a system?
I am driven by this purpose and also climate anxiety. The situation is dire - it does keep me up at night. The antidote to anxiety is action.
What Would You Change In The World?
The global economic system - consumerism. We were so quick to build this system after the second world war, no one stopped to think of the future consequences on the planet. We created a self-eating monster.
Mother Ocean Blue’s Legacy
The ultimate goal for MotherOceanBlue is a place on the national curriculum in the UK and on the international education system.
The next phase for the company is to set up a charity/non-profit or foundation to focus attention on SDG14 which has the least take-up of all the SDG's.
I want the next generations to know and understand their world. It's hard to cause harm if you are aware of the dangers.
Current Projects
Education program designed to give students key knowledge of planetary ecological systems and function; the problems and issues created by human impact on those systems, and how we can work to counter the negative impacts and work with those systems instead of disrupting them.
A funding hub connecting business CSR resources to support global marine science, conservation, and education.
