Programa Atlantis
‘Programa Atlantis’ is an underwater ecological education program for youth in schools, which promotes ocean literacy through experiences at the ocean and in the community. Programa Atlantis was developed in collaboration between Oceans and Flow and Ocyano.
The methodology of the Program combines the learning and practice of freediving with tools of human and social development, based on the principles of deep ecology.
This innovative combination of immersive learning enhances positive and transformative experiences of integration in Nature, which awakens the responsibility for the conservation of local natural values, and promotes a greater understanding of the interdependence of all beings and a culture of well-being and resilience to the integration of human life with the environment.
The practice of free diving, as the main tool of involvement, allows young people to experience new adventures and skills, expanding their communication underwater, as well as a new way of being at sea that allows them to create physical and emotional connections with the aquatic environment. It helps them understand and fall in love with the ocean and inspires lasting behaviour change through this connection. The main goal is to educate a new generation of ambassadors and guardians of the sea.
