Cheila Almeida | Marine Biologist | Ocean Photographer | Portugal
Cheila is a marine biologist from Peniche, Portugal. She has been obsessed with the ocean since a young age, sharing her love for the ocean more recently through her ocean photography.
Cheila can be seen capturing the mesmerising underwater world and the creatures that live within it, to surfers cruising along epic coastlines. As an environmental educator and marine biologist, Cheila hopes to inspire others to protect the ocean.
She is currently working on two projects of her own, which are still in the early stages. One will aim to transmit ocean-related scientific knowledge to society as a whole, and the other will be about bringing children closer to the ocean.
When did you first start your storytelling journey?
Since I started my journey as an environmental educator.
What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?
Days spent at the beach with my three brothers, curiosity about all forms of life, and being fascinated by jellyfish since one stung me one summer when I was 6 years old. These three profound memories have shaped my life in many ways.
What path did you choose after leaving school?
Working near and to the ocean with some travel in between.
Who/what currently inspires you?
What inspires me is how powerless we are in relation to the ocean.
What would you most like to change in the world/environment today?
Mankind's knowledge of its role in the environment.
