Colby James | Underwater Photographer/Filmmaker | Perth WA
Colby first picked up a film camera back in 2013, and over the years has slowly developed his creativity further through the lens, while following my passions for diving, conservation and travel. Building on a fascination of the ocean since childhood, it didn't take long before he was bringing cameras underwater to document the marine world that had captivated him.
Always boarding planes with more camera and dive gear than clothes, Colby has travelled around the globe to capture his perfect shot. His portfolio truly reflects his affection for the ocean. He aims to use his storytelling abilities to inspire others and promote unity and coexistence rather than polarisation or segregation. Currently, Colby is studying for his PhD after getting his bachelor and honours degrees in marine science.

Matt Draper, my dear adventurer friend Benjamin Hardman and anyone making a career from a life of adventure and story telling.
What do you value most in life?
Time and freedom to spend adventuring or in the water, whether at home or travelling.
What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?
Spending Christmas holidays snorkelling around coral reefs, fish, and sharks in a beautiful untouched part of the world. Lucky that my grandparents built a shack at the Dampier archipelago back in the 70’s. This completely inspired me and ignited a passion for a career in marine science.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to follow their dreams as an ocean Storyteller?
Take every chance you can get to be out doing what you love, camera in hand and record daily thoughts of these experiences in your diary.
