Constantly inspired by Nature herself, and raised by a buddhist mother, Giordano has always felt a deep connection to the Earth. He is always looking for ways to re-establishing the ancestral connection to nature that he believes we once had.
Trained and working as a disaster management expert, Giordano is the co-founder of Ostia Cleanup, a group of young people born and raised in Pstia who share a deep respect for the sea and the environment. Believing in an ecological and sustainable future, Ostia offers innovative solutions with the aim of addressing issues such as plastic pollution and climate change.
What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?
My mom is a Buddhist who always pushed me to travel and appreciate the impermanence of things, we would spend hours creating mandalas with natural elements only to destroy them once we finished them. This upbringing shaped my vision for the way I respect and interrelate with Nature, as well as my nomadism.
What path did you choose after leaving school?
I undertook a BA in Global Governance at the University of Rome and then pursued a M.Sc. in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation at Lund University, Sweden
What would you most like to change in the world/environment today?
Transform the vision we have from "natural disasters" to "natural hazards". Tsunamis, earthquakes and hurricanes are regenerative events for our planet and we should be able to view them as such
What advice would you give to anyone looking to follow their dreams as an Ocean Advocate?
Never underestimate the change you can achieve with one simple gesture
