Katherine Nielsen | Content Creator | Photographer | Western Australia
Inspired by the creatives who are brave enough to follow their ambition as a vocation, Katherine first began her journey as an underwater photographer two years ago. Prior to this, Katherine gained some experience as a hair and makeup artist, before working as a Perioperative nurse. She was placed back on her creative-trajectory, using ocean photography as a coping mechanism for the stress and anxiety that came with six years in the Operating theatre. Now, Katherine uses content creation and community management to connect with and have an impact on people who share the same values, whilst also completing a post-graduate degree in sustainable development and strategic communication
What is a typical day like for you?
I work from home so my day is always varied. Content creation and community management fill a large part of my day. I'm also doing post-grad in sustainable development and strategic communication.
What path did you choose after leaving school?
I left school when I was 15 as a Dyslexic thinker I always struggled in traditional education. I became a make-up artist working on music videos and short film before eventually doing a Masters Degree in Perioperative Nursing I worked in the Operating theatre for six years. It's been nice to return to a creative field again.
What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?
I spent my childhood sailing, camping or spending time by the sea. I got burnt out as a Perioperative nurse, and ocean photography became a way of coping with stress and anxiety. Travelling opened my eyes to the plastic problem plaguing our oceans. Life for me now is about creating community and social impact with people who share the same values.
What/who currently inspires you?
Anyone who is creative and brave enough to follow that as a vocation. Ted Grambeau, Jono Allen, Julia Wheeler, and Cait Miers.
I have also met and connected with some incredible ocean photographer's who I know are going to change the world!

I hope that when I leave this earth we will have seen some real shifts in how we interact with each other and how we care for the environment.
