Louis Richter | Photographer | Videographer | Coral Bay WA
Wildlife photographer and videographer Louis was born in Spain, lived in France, and is now living in Western Australia.
Louis was inspired by the ocean from a young age, but it wasn’t until 2 years ago that Louis decided to share his storytelling journey through his lens, from capturing ocean creatures blending into the background, to them cruising in the deep blue.
Louis is also involved with the apparel brand Protect What You Love, which aims to help protect wildlife and critical ecosystems.
When did you first start your storytelling journey?
Around 2 years ago.
What path did you choose after leaving school?
I became self-employed as a landscaper, as I wanted to be my own boss.
What are the fondest memories from your upbringing that you feel impacted your life choices and lifestyle today?
Mainly my parents’ past. With them both being dive instructors, it inspired me and allowed me to fall in love with the ocean pretty young.
What/who currently inspires you?
The Ocean always has something new to show me and keeps inspiring me everyday.
Are there any books/documentaries that have guided your thinking, and that you'd like to recommend to other ocean lovers?
Documentaries: Sharkwater, Chasing Coral, Our Planet, Perpetual Planet, Planet Ocean.
Books: Breathology, Deep.
What do you value most?
Getting as much content as possible to try and make mini-documentaries.
I'm involved with the brand Protect What You Love also to bring awareness around sharks and marine life in general. We just did a campaign about the entanglements of marine life in the shark nets on the East coast of Australia.
What would you most like to change in the world/environment today?
The protection of marine endangered species, especially sharks.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to follow their dreams as an ocean Storyteller?
Go for it and spend as much time as possible in or on the water.
What legacy do you hope to leave?
A healthier ocean.
