Tony Cheng | Underwater Photographer | Taiwan
Tony Cheng is an avid underwater photographer, known for capturing life both above and below the ocean’s surface. From Tony’s leatherback turtle images to vulnerable polar bears, he can be seen busy with his camera to raise awareness through imagery storytelling.
Currently, Tony is working on a leatherback turtle shooting program and recording polar cetaceans. He is also spending his time assisting and educating local fishers on the importance of the ocean.
When did you first start your storytelling journey?
I started storytelling in 2017.
What path did you choose after leaving school?
I became an engineer, but soon after I became a strength and conditioning coach. In my spare time I capture the amazing life on our planet.
What/who currently inspires you?
I am greatly inspired by Paul Nicklen, SeaLegacy co-founder and National Geo photographer.
Are there any books/documentaries that have guided your thinking, and that you'd like to recommend to other ocean lovers?
The nature documentary series, Secrets of the Whales.
What would you most like to change in the world/environment today?
People's respect for wild animals, as well as environmental protection issues.
What legacy do you hope to leave?
Real records of various rare animals.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to follow their dreams as an Ocean Storyteller?
To pick a date is not as good as to encounter a date. Decide on your goal, book your flight, and go find your goal.
